Welcome to the Newark Team Ministry website. We are a Church of England parish with three church buildings (St Mary Magdalene, Christ Church and St Leonard's). Together we serve the 26,000 inhabitants of the pleasant, historic market town of Newark on Trent, Nottinghamshire. Each of our churches is actively involved in the life of its neighbourhood. Like the Anglican Church nationally, we include a wide range of people and forms of worship, celebrating both our unity and also our diversity. Our Team Ministry was formed in 1980, uniting three formerly independent parishes. We are part of Newark deanery, within the Anglican Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham.
We
will work together in the
community
to celebrate God's love,
to proclaim the good news of Jesus
to support each other
to encourage spiritual growth
and to serve local people.
St Mary Magdalene is a splendid medieval church building in the town centre, with an imposing spire. It serves the central band of Newark and the left bank of the Trent, as well as having many civic functions.
Christ Church moved from its 1837 building to its current site on Boundary Road in 1957. It serves the southern half of Newark and its separate Church Hall is extensively used by both community and church groups.
St Leonard's Church, on Lincoln Road, shares its dual purpose building with the Bridge Community Centre and serves the northern part of Newark. It was built in 1978, replacing an older building erected in 1873.
